I ‘ve been invited to my 20 year high school reunion.
Oh my gosh! Am I really that old?
Yeah, I did the math. Turns out I am.
I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go. I mean I must have stayed in contact with the people I wanted to see, so what’s the point? But then I saw this post on Kitty Hietala’s blog. It reminded me of how easily we grow apart over the years.
And then the friend requests from facebook started coming. I realized there really are a lot of people I want to catch up with. So now I am kinda excited about it.
But I’m also a little worried. I mean there is a reason my YA fiction is filled with angst. I wasn’t your normal high school kid (Okay, I know, who was?).
I think this could be a good thing though. Who knows? Maybe seeing all those people from my past will give me inspiration for my next novel. Or maybe I’ll find out some of my classmates have teenagers [beta readers]!!!

Have fun! I had my 20 year reunion last year and skipped it (for exactly the reason you noted). I’ll have to go check out Kitty’s post. Maybe I’ll regret not going. I guess there’s always the 25 year.
Oh my gosh, do they do a 25 year, too? I’ll have to wait and see how this one goes.
I never went to my 20-year reunion. Didn’t really want to, but now that you mention the possibility of fiction fodder from the experience, I may have to rethink my 30th when that time comes.
All those crazy memories! I’m hoping to rekindle some of the drama and channel it into my writing.
It is amazing when you realize, in retrospect, how much those high school friends meant to you. I mean… the *friends* … not the people who caused you angst!!
There were plenty of those in high school too. Thanks for the ping-back!
Yeah. Your post made me really think back to all the people I knew way back then, and how there could be some great catching up!
I haven’t attended any of mine, either. I feel like I’ve kept in touch with the people I’ve wanted to. Maybe someday, though….
My class didn’t have the five year, and I just barely stopped by at my ten year. I figured it might be time for me to check in.
I just got an notice about my 10 yr. reunion and it so weird. Feels like I just graduated last May. Hope you have fun! And that would be awesome if you could get some inspriation or beta readers!
The time really does fly. I don’t feel this old.
I guess it helps that I write YA.
